A little something i like…

I thought i would just let you in on my lastest obsession…sunglasses. I cant get enough of them!!I must have bought five pairs in the last two weeks. It is summer after all…

My advice in terms of style? COLOUR!!!!! Its all about bright colours, pinks, reds, blues…my favourite pair at the moment are a white, big framed, Jeepers Creepers pair i saw on asos.com and HAD to have. They are a bit expensive i have to say, above the twenty pound mark, but totally worth it, i get asked where they are from nearly every time i wear them.

There are so many styles out there, but please try and be a bit adventurous…embrace Summer with a bit of colour!!

Love to all xxxx

Just a note…

Just preparing you for the accessory of the season…the HAT!! Think trilby; straw, colour banded and light weight. Not only will it add a certain air of effortless chic to your summer outfit, but it has the ability to hide a multitude of hair sins…whats not to love?? Everywhere has their own version, and i mean EVERYWHERE. As always, i provide photographic evidence of just how fabulous these babies can be…

Speak soon my lovelies…

Summer is but weeks away…

Oh my friends…the season where flesh is the key trend is soooooooooooooooo nearly here. I can feel it in the air. Looking out my window now i see sun, i see sunglasses, i see smiles. I see the signs of my favourite season, Summer. A little bit of warmth goes a long way, the whole world seems to relax just a tiny bit…and out come the shorts!

So along with this change in attitude and climate comes a wardrobe update. Yesss!!!!! Any excuse for a shopping trip…This blog is just to let you all know what i have noted as the key pieces to get NOW, to take you through the transition period, where there is still the chill of Spring, but the warm lunchtimes of Summer.

1. The jacket…Think lightweight, blazers are HUGE right now, especially the naval-esque styles, anything navy blue, stripy, gold buttoned or anchor-motif decorated is spot on. Denim is also on its way back, tight fighted, light wash, light weight jackets are everywhere in the shops, TopShop have a really cute fitted one, as does Asos.com (as always).

2. The basic white vest…This is my key wardrobe staple…a white vest fitted just right is so laid-back-sexy. Think white vest, highwaisted cotton skirt, thin belt, simple gold accessories and some staple over-sized sunnies. Very LA chic.

3. Sunglasses…Simple, sunglasses can transform any outfit. A pair of uniform black, oversized sunnies go with EVERYTHING. They just give an outfit that extra special something…

For now, these are the three things you should be rushing out to buy. They are the pieces that you do not need to wait for Summer days to wear, GET THEM NOW!!Why wait to look hot??

Until next time my fashionable friends…xxxxx

‘Buy-My-Wardrobe’ antics…

I am terrible…i ruthlessly plugged the best fashion event i have ever been to and didn’t tell you guys about it! How very selfish of me…

Firstly let me say the organisers did not disappoint, there was indeed champagne, there were indeed delectable nibbles, beautiful people and jaw-dropping surroundings, but most importantly, there was absolutely no shortage of bargain designer goods…think a high-class market equipped with film-crew and photographers. It was heaven…absolute heaven.

I was naughty…my friends and i graced the event with the sole intention of enjoying the experience, for us it was all about the shmooze, getting in there with the fashion crowd, plugging our radio show, showing our fashion hungry faces…but goodness me did we fail.

We wanted everything.

You all know my love for anything VINTAGE, well picture this…boxes and boxes full of unwanted, fabulous scarves, necklaces, cardigans, gowns… for prices as low as ONE POUND!!!!Yes, we stood there, mouths open, sure we had come to the wrong place for a significant period of time before we delved into those boxes of loveliness and proceeded to pocket absolutely everything. One hand holding a flute of the lovely bubbly stuff, and the other overflowing with an abundance of bargains, let me tell you, i was happy, happy, happy. I even picked up my Summer Ball dress, a white grecian, Marilyn Monroe beauty for a mere twenty five English pounds. You can’t get any better than that.

When the next event comes up i will let you all know…it is so totally worth it…even if you just went and collected your goody bag equipped with discounts, make-up, eyelashes, body-creams, water and lip-glosses…but if the the next one was anything like the launch, you will definately not come away empty handed.

I was asked to take part in a short ’show-and-tell’ film for the jewellery company RocksFrocksandCocktails which is set to be aired on their website soon. I felt like a star! For about ten minutes anyway…

Don’t miss out on the next one…pleeeeeeease…i cant sell it enough…

Royal Holloway Fashion Show 2008…

Oh, my friends, i cannot tell you how fabulously fashionable last weekend was for me. I modelled in the Fashion Show at Royal Holloway, titled ‘Let Us Entertain You’, and i can without a doubt scream to the very rooftops that it was by far one of the most amazing experiences i have ever had. The people, the atmosphere, the runway, the CLOTHES!!!!My word it was beyond fantastic. It was so liberating, so exciting to be up on stage dressed in some of the most crazy-ass, beautiful clothes i have ever seen. The event had no budget, therefore buyers were chosen for each section to ‘provide’ the clothing by getting companies to sponsor the event. This proved incredibly difficult at first as the shops were dubious (obviously) about lending out their clothes without proper insurance, but in the end the few who were involved ended up being amazing. My section, which was ‘modern day fashion’ was provided for by two fabulous shops on Carnaby Street, Chateau Roux and a vintage haven, Sam Greenberg. My outfit consisted of a black, white and pink vintage T-Shirt, a silver sequined boob tube (worn as a skirt!), knee high white socks, patent Mary-Janes, neon pink braces and matching vintage glasses, accessorized with giant silver earrings and rather a lot of bangles. I was the epitome of modern day ‘geek-chic’! The whole event was in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness, therefore all the proceeds from the sale of the tickets on each of the three nights went to a worthy cause. I just wanted to let you all know…it was fantastic!! I provide photographic evidence below…

 Love to all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Oscars, disappointment all round…

You can’t deny it, the Oscars are not really about the awards, the acknowledgement of talent in the acting world…it’s a runway, a red-carpet showcase of the few lucky designers who have been chosen to dress the famous faces of the evening…for some, its the making of a career, one fabulous dress=guaranteed fashion stardom. Remember Julia Roberts when she won Best Actress for Erin Brockovich in 2001? No, you don’t, you remember her dress. That iconic Vintage Valentino creation, simple in colour but spectacular and absolutely perfect in cut. She catapulted vintage into the front line…from wearing one, simple (but fabulous) dress. Most recently, think of the burgundy Vera Wang creation donned by Knightly in 2006, or the nude, figure hugging Zac Posen beauty Gwyneth Paltrow chose in 2007. All of these dresses are so very different, but equally memorable.

But this year, i fear a platuea has been reached. For me, this year’s offerings are so safe, so understated and classic, but in many ways, boring. This season is supposed to be all about colour and vibrancy, romance and ruffles, prints and patterns…so why did a significant amount of guests wear black or white? Why did those who took a risk with colour, flop miserably in the style stakes?

Lets start with Cameron Diaz. She does it every time. Why is it that we see such an innovator everywhere else, but on this particular red carpet she chooses to remain under the radar, donning one of those ‘it’s nice yeah, but nothing special’ gowns EVERY SINGLE TIME. This year was no exception…she embraced the pastel pink trend, which worked nicely with the blonde highlights and tanned skin, but is it me or does the cut of the figure-hugging, slightly tailed creation remind you of last years white effort? Why not try a more exciting colour or a more novel fit? I’m not saying i dislike the dress, it’s pretty, feminine and of course shows off her fantatic figure, but it’s TOO SAFE!!

There was also a distinct lack of sparkle, of glitz, of glamour…the only celebrity that successfully added a bit of shine to the night was Renne Zellweger who looked glowing in a hand-embroidered Carolina Herrera gown. But still, despite her success in lighting up an ensemble of bland beauties, Zellweger still stuck to the same style, the same figger-hugging, shoulder-baring cut. No one seemed to get it just right.

Has fashion become too safe? Has everything been done? Or are we so ‘out-there’ in our every day choices that it is a refreshing change to be classic, to avoid the risk of fashion failure? I hope the answer to all these questions is no…next year i want Bjork and her swan back, lets put some good old-fashioned fun back into the world of glamour…

Fashion as Art…’the dress as the new canvas’…

Fashion is all about the delight of innovation, change and creativity. What distinguishes one decade’s ’style’ from the next is the designer’s desire to try something new, to mix, to morph, to recreate ‘image’ itself.

It seems this concept of ‘image’ and ‘art’ has become a literal experimentation within fashion. Recently ten graduates between the ages of 25 and 32, from the Accademia di Brera in Milan were propositioned by the design due Dolce and Gabbana to ‘paint’ their new collection. Just like a canvas, the artists were given different silks-organza, net and tulle-on which to paint their own designs. Chosen for their unique brushstrokes, use of colour and individual styles, the graduates decorated their silks however they pleased, which they then handed over and watched be transformed into gowns reminiscent of the Fifties era. Domenico Dolce said of the collection that ‘We wanted hand-painted fabrics because we wanted each dress to be unique.’ The designers are said to have been inspired by artwork situated within the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York, where the pieces of Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and Julian Shnabel were showcased side by side.

But this interest in art as inspiration is not only evident in D&G’s current collection, take a look at the recent adverts fo Balenciaga, where the back-in-trend ‘trophy jackets’ have been painted with delicate florals and dreamy patterns, juxtaposing with the masculine lines and the ‘tech-like’ cuts. Chloe has also created a selection of silk slips for Spring which are set to be on every young fashion followers’ Spring wishlist. Donning bold brush strokes of navy, yellow and violet they are delicate, youthful and desirable, but at the same time modern and appoachably mature in their simple one-shouldered, asymmetrical cuts.

Fashion, in my books, is all about fun. The freedom we have when it comes to our own image is incredible. We can literally be what we want to be, whether that is ourselves or someone completely different. That is why fashion’s new relationship to artistry is so exciting for me. Art is all about expression, subjectivity, the literal manifestation of a concept, a thought through various creative means. Clothes represent who we are, what we want to be, how we wish others to see us. For me, fashion and art are made for each other, essentially they both strive for the same ideal. Its all about having fun.

Its all about vintage…back to the 40’s ladies…

In the last couple of years or so VINTAGE has become a must for every fashion lover…these days its the done thing to be wearing something grandma, or even grandad, would have worn back in the day. The reason for this is because fashion, every day, everywhere, is a mixture of every era EVER, every season something comes back into the realm of ‘cool’ and has the fashion world going crazy. We’ve had leggings, high waisters, braces, flapper dresses, sequins, leather trousers, leg warmers…what we are wearing now will undoubtably be strutting down the runway in years to come, updated to suit the time of course, but nevertheless back in trend.

I personally love Vintage, not because it seems to be ‘trendy’ or because EVERYONE is doing it, but for the opposite reason. You can pick up pieces from vintage shops or markets which are bang on trend, but one of a kind. It excites me to think that absolutely no one will be walking around wearing the same item anywhere, because that is the beauty of vintage, the pieces are all ’one-offs’ and therefore totally unique to you. A short while ago i took a trip to Portobello market and bought an abundance of gold, costume jewellery for a fraction of what you would pay in the likes of Topshop and Urban outfitters, as the ‘trash’ trend was being reborn and i had seen a few gold chains around the necks of a few of the A list. So i invested in quite a few chunky chains, statement rings and bangles, and what do you know? The fashion world went crazy for trash and i had people asking me where i got all my tacky beauties from, of course i told them, why not? They were never going to find an exact match to mine…

This is why i am crazy for Vintage, not the ridiculously overpriced goods you see in the tiny, pint-sized sections in Miss Selfridge and Outfitters, but the goodies you find on Brick Lane, at Portobello Market, and on ebay. Don’t pay silly money, as after all the goods are used and are likely to have a few marks on them from when they were owned previously, but saying that i find this is part of the appeal. I recently went against everything i have just stated above and bought some fab light brown, knee-high leather boots from Outfitters (in the sale though to my credit), which have a lot of marks on, but to be honest i think this was part of their charm. To me it shows that the previous owner adored them just as much as i do, and that worn look is what vintage dressing is all about, you want your outfit to look loved.

So this is why i am soooooooooooooo excited that the fashion forcasters of Spring/Summer 2008 have bought me the 40’s inspired tea dress. Girly, floaty, floral, subtley sexual and just plain pretty, it is a statement piece which can take you through the thaw of spring into the warm days of the long awaited summer months. At the moment, wear with tights and heels, but when it gets a bit warmer go natural and barelegged avec gladiator sandals and sunnies…Here are a few piccies of some of the styles floating around at the moment…

Come summer, these beauties will be everywhere…get yours NOW!!!
